Funding Opportunities

There are a number of funding opportunities available to Sayda Tutorial Institute learners who are interested in university and work opportunities beyond their studies.

Sayda Student Innovation Challenge is an annual contest aimed at providing support, encouragement and funding up to R5,000 to Sayda Tutorial Institute students who have “bright ideas”. Sayda Student Innovation Challenge inspirers interesting and innovative students and projects.

The Challenge has 3 Categories:

  • Entrepreneurship (Innovative ideas, entrepreneurship, and commercial products)
  • Applied Research (Innovative project solving a real world problem)
  • Sustainability (Innovative idea or project contributing to sustainability)

Sayda Bursary Allotment is a programme under Southern African Youth Development Agency that collaborates with companies that provides bursaries to deserving learners who are determined to transform their lives for the better. .

Applicant Requirements:

  • Subject Selection

There are general bursaries and there are 'career specific' bursaries available to students. For example Eskom may only offer financial support to students who want to continue their studies in an engineering related field.

  • Location

Students may be required to live in a certain area or possess citizenship in a certain country before they can apply for an opportunity.

  • Age

The average age for eligible applicants is between 18 and 25, however every bursary contract is different.

  • Race/Financial Need

While bursaries can be awarded for excellence, many bursaries aim to redress past injustices by providing financial aid to needy scholars.

  • Academic Achievement 

Applicants may be required to achieve a minimum percentage in a subject in order to be considered for funding.

Sayda Internship & Learnership programme is the "Learn & Earn Programme" that assists the youth of Southern Africa to fulfill the income gap, skills gap and experience gap. Youth in Southern Africa represent about 60% of the population and currently, 63.1% of those young people are without employment or not at training or education institutions.

Applicant Requirements:

The requirements for a learnership vary from company to company but usually include:-

  • You must be over 16 years of age, but younger than 35 years of aged;
  • You must have completed matric or have a relevant qualification;
  • If you're not Southern African you must have resided in Southern Africa for more than 12 months.

Learnerships teach you the basics of your chosen field and familiarize you with the various aspects of the industry. It is also a great chance for companies to assess your skills, capabilities and personalities.
